The state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) officially prohibited high-volume hydraulic fracturing (HVHF) in New York State by issuing its formal Findings Statement on Monday, June 29.
This completed the state’s seven-year review of the activity.
New York is now the first state with a major shale deposit to prohibit the fracking. Continue reading

The Schmid family of Old Forge invites all to share in the Tayler Schmid Birthday/Eskimo Strong Celebration Benefit on Thursday, July 23 from 4 to 10 p.m. at McCauley Mountain.
The family-friendly event will include food, beverages, raffles and children’s games and activities.

The Inlet Public Library invites all library, art, wildlife and party lovers to a special wildlife art auction on Tuesday, July 8 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The event, a library fundraiser, includes a blind silent bid of 30 limited edition fine art prints from the collection of library benefactor, the late Scott Stuart, wine and hors d’oeuvres.
There will also be a raffle for a highly-prized artist’s proof, Teddy McBear, by late wildlife artist Vivi Crandall.
