Inlet Public Library receives state grant funds for building improvements

Inlet Public Library was one of eight libraries in State Senator Hugh T. Farley’s 49th Senatorial District that were recently awarded construction funds that will allow them to improve their facilities.

The library will receive $29,831 earmarked for interior renovations such as storage space, bathroom renovations, and electrical renovations for computers.  Continue reading

Wildlife art auction to benefit Inlet Public Library on July 8

The Inlet Public Library invites all library, art, wildlife and party lovers to a special wildlife art auction on Tuesday, July 8 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The event, a library fundraiser, includes a blind silent bid of 30 limited edition fine art prints from the collection of library benefactor, the late Scott Stuart, wine and hors d’oeuvres.

There will also be a raffle for a highly-prized artist’s proof, Teddy McBear, by late wildlife artist Vivi Crandall.

Inlet Library: Art Auction raises funds

An auction of a portion of the wildlife art collection of the late Scott Stuart held in support of the Inlet Public Library on July 9 was a tremendous success, according to library board member and event organizer Reggie Chambers. Enough funds were raised to make the library’s furnace replacement initiative a reality, she said.

Inlet Public Library: More than 30 years old…and still growing

The Inlet Public Library has experienced a tremendous amount of growth since its beginnings over 30 years ago.

Established first as a reading room in 1982 with community donations and $500 from the Inlet Town Board, the Little Schoolhouse Library Reading Center, as it was called at the time, was housed in the former Inlet one room schoolhouse.

Karen Lee volunteered as the first librarian.

“Eventually the library outgrew the one room schoolhouse and following renovations, was moved into the old firehouse in 1998, the same year it was officially chartered,” said board member, Jean Bird.

The library continues to operate at the building which is leased from the Town of Inlet. Continue reading
