St. Bartholomew’s Food Pantry begins new program year

The St. Bartholomew’s Food Pantry will be starting a new program year in July with the recertification of all clients.

The procedures started over the past few months have brought the Pantry into compliance with the New York State Health Department and the Food Bank of Central New York.

The needs in the community are continuing to grow as new families move into the area.  The area served follows the Route 28 corridor from Otter Lake to Raquette Lake.   Continue reading

Time to place Niccolls Food Sense orders

Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church is taking orders for the Food Sense package for July.  Each unit costs $15.50. This program is open to all. There are no eligibility requirements nor is there any obligation to purchase food every month.

The July unit consists of chicken drumsticks, fish sticks, Salisbury patties, ground turkey, tuna fish, fresh potato salad, elbow macaroni, frozen corn, white chocolate nut cookie mix, peach slices and two fresh produce items. Continue reading

Spring Burn Ban: DEC issues 357 tickets for open burning violations

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Officers (ECOs) and Forest Rangers issued 357 tickets for open burning-related charges during the spring statewide open burn ban, according to DEC Commissioner Joe Martens.

DEC issued the tickets during the two-month burn ban that ran from March 16 through May 14.

The charges included 144 violations, 213 misdemeanors and nearly a dozen written warnings for infractions including leaving an unattended fire, burning during the burn ban, unlawful disposal of solid waste (for burning garbage) and setting a fire that endangers the property of another.  Continue reading
