Old Forge: St. Bartholomew’s Food Pantry in need of volunteers

A cut in hours to the Food Pantry at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Old Forge has been prompted by a seasonal loss of volunteers.

Normally open every Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. during the month of February, the Pantry will be closed on February 11 and 25.

The hours for the month of March are currently under review pending the interest of new volunteers. Continue reading

Area Catholic church volunteers conducting parishioner census

The Catholic parishes of St. Bartholomew’s in Old Forge and St. Anthony of Padua of Inlet and Raquette Lake will be conducting a door-to-door census to seek out the needs of current parishioners.

The census is the fulfillment of Bishop Terry LaValley’s diocese-wide envisioning plan to reach out and listen to active parishioners, and to attract inactive members. Continue reading

St. Bartholomew’s Food Pantry begins new program year

The St. Bartholomew’s Food Pantry will be starting a new program year in July with the recertification of all clients.

The procedures started over the past few months have brought the Pantry into compliance with the New York State Health Department and the Food Bank of Central New York.

The needs in the community are continuing to grow as new families move into the area.  The area served follows the Route 28 corridor from Otter Lake to Raquette Lake.   Continue reading

Kiwanis Food Collection to support local Community Food Pantry

The Webb Community Food Pantry, located at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Old Forge, is always in need of additional non-perishable food items.

The services of the Food Pantry have been in great demand this year and are in need of substantial replenishment.

The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks will assist by sponsoring a Food Kart Day on Saturday, July 4.  Continue reading

Ten students from the parishes of St. Bartholomew’s and St. Anthony’s received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Terry LaValley at St. Bartholomew’s Church during the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday, May 16.

The administering of the sacrament followed the students’ completion of a two-year preparation program under the guidance of instructors Patty Foley and Barb Winslow.
