The carved wooden moose at the Just Plain Good store in Old Forge hasn’t looked this good in years, thanks to a restoration and fresh paint job performed by Hailey Paddock, a store employee from Remsen.
“Hailey gave him a total makeover, and he looks amazing,” said Kristie Green, Just Plain Good’s manager.
The moose is about 10 years old and has suffered some broken pieces and damage to his finish, but that’s all behind him now, Green said.
Hailey got creative, adding a scenic painting and base that has him standing in a river bed.
He looks so good, in fact, that it’s about time he had a name, according to Green.
And the public’s help is being sought.
Those with name ideas can stop at Just Plain Good on Route 28 in Old Forge and fill out an entry form for the “Name the Moose” contest.
Ten finalists will be picked on July 15. The moose’s winning name will be unveiled on July 19, when a sign bearing it is installed next to him.
The person who submitted the name will receive a $100 store gift certificate.
