On this last Tuesday in June, the last of June itself, The BombERNs dug in deep and swung hard. Brittany Sheldrick drove a ball over all fielders’ heads, and Karen Hoskins did the same.
But two sluggers slugging, isn’t the same as ten, which is how many veteran bats are featured in the Speculator lineup.Speculator has made itself the spectacle of the mountain league more times than not.
Even the calculated sponsor of the vaunted Screamers must admit; these girls from “the far off forest” can concuss. The barrage was brutal.
To suggest that it dampened the spirits of our Babes of The Blue Line is ridiculous however!
They cheered while politely jeering the solitary umpire.
Tricia Lindsay triumphantly scored three of the BombERNs runs, while Brittany Sheldrick scored two herself—one on her own bat, adding to her home run total.
Colleen Brigham continued to pitch like an uncontested Aretha Franklin of the underhand.
To back her up, Erin Eggleston continued to impress from the bump.
Brittany Sheldrick and Wendy Conely continued to hold down left field, while Sara Shanahan emerged from the catching shadow of Amanda Hoepfl to add Third Basedame to her game changing resumé.
A team of The Tavern continues to form. Fielders backing up fielders, girls shouting out directions, and then counter directions.
The Captain shouting out her squad, and then cheering them on.
While by the end, Crusher Hoskins cheered from behind the chainlink, alongside veteran Brigham, as the newest team of the North Country emerges.
An admitted defeat, the girls of The Bay would like to congratulate Speculator on their win of 28-7. (It’s at this point in the article that Crusher would like to remind everyone to not tell Chuck she won the 50/50… again.)
Next week these newbies look to whiff the rackets of the girls from Raquette at home on ERN Park (formerly Fern Park) at 6:30 p.m.
Most of the girls appear quite angry… earmuffs are suggested.
