Friends plan benefit for Marie Martin

A benefit is being held for Marie Martin at Adirondack Lodge on Route 28 in Old Forge on Thursday, August 27, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Marie, who lives in Forestport, is a former resident of Old Forge. She was in a seizure-related  car accident a year and a half ago, which resulted in a broken back, several months of missed work and a totaled car.  Continue reading

Community celebrates the life of Tayler Schmid at McCauley Mt. event

Family and friends of the late Tayler Schmid gathered at McCauley Mountain on Thursday, July 23 to honor Tayler’s memory on his 18th birthday.

The family-friendly event, which raised funds for the organization, Families for Depression Awareness, included food, beverages, raffles, children’s games, activities, and a Riggies Cook-Off.

Music was provided by  Paul Case, Jim and Gwen Tracy, John Kelsey & Brian Mulkerne, Joe Bolton, Chloe Barkauskas, and Alisha Robinson.

The evening ended with a lantern release at 10 p.m.

Celebration to honor memory of Tayler Schmid, raise depression awareness funds on July 23rd

The Schmid family of Old Forge invites all to share in the Tayler Schmid Birthday/Eskimo Strong Celebration Benefit on Thursday, July 23 from 4 to 10 p.m. at McCauley Mountain.

The family-friendly event will include food, beverages, raffles and children’s games and activities.

There will also be a Riggies Cook-Off and a Lantern Release. Eskimo Strong t-shirts and bracelets will be available for sale on-site. Continue reading

Benefit for Scott Hall set for Feb. 22

Friends of Scott Hall will host a benefit on Sunday, February 22 to assist the Old Forge native with expenses related to his on-going treatment for leukemia.551404_477042369011309_413678941_n

The family-friendly event will be held at Van Auken’s Inne in Thendara from 2 to 6 p.m. and will include live music by local musicians, raffles, auctions and food courtesy of Van Auken’s Inne. Continue reading

MAC’s Safe Ride to host 90-Miler breakfast

MAC’s Safe Ride will host a hot breakfast buffet at the Old Forge Fire Hall prior to the start of the 90-Miler Canoe Classic on Friday, September 5th.

The breakfast will be held from 6 to 8 a.m. and the cost is $10 per person.

All proceeds will benefit MAC’s Safe Ride, a free alternative night-time transportation service that serves the Old Forge area.

John Briant painting sales to benefit library

Most people remember the late John Briant as the author of the popular Adirondack Detective Series, however he also enjoyed painting as a hobby following his retirement as a New York State Trooper.

He served a 29-year career with Troops D and B as a State Trooper and a BCI Investigator that began in 1953.   Continue reading
