Van Auken’s Inne: Nod to history with railroad tie, tavern restoration

Since the Moore family bought Van Auken’s Inne last November, they have strived to honor the historic nature of the hotel.

Built next to the tracks of Thendara Station in 1891 by Cornelius Mack, it was operated as Con Macks Hotel and served and housed visitors who came to the area by rail.

The hospitality services of the hotel/railroad continued throughout the next century and beyond as various owners catered to the needs of both a local and visiting clientele. Continue reading →

Thanks to All for support of Scott Hall Fundraiser

IMG_0139*****The Scott Hall Fights Leukemia event on Sunday, February 22 at Van Auken’s Inne in Thendara was a great success, raising a tremendous amount of funds for Old Forge native Scott Hall who has been residing at the Roswell Cancer Center in Buffalo battling Leukemia.

Benefit set Sunday, Feb. 22: Friends rally in support of Old Forge native, Scott Hall

Thendara: Everything old is new again for owners of Van Auken’s Inne

Two guys walk into a bar. While eating lunch, one notices that the establishment is for sale. He converses with the owner and is intrigued with the building’s history.Van Auken's0004

During their talk he discovers the owner is a distant relative of his wife’s, so he calls her to join them. In the meantime the owner’s daughter and son stop by and they have a mini family reunion.  Continue reading →

CAP-21 invites all to group’s Annual Meeting on Nov. 20th

The public is invited to attend the annual meeting of the Central Adirondack Partnership (CAP-21) that is scheduled for Thursday, November 20 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Van Auken’s Inne in Thendara.

CAP-21 will review its community and grant work for the past year and talk about what it seeks to accomplish in 2015.  Continue reading →

Van Auken’s event raises $1,000-plus for Herkimer County Humane Society

The Pairing and Caring wine and cheese tasting event held at Van Auken’s Inne on Saturday, September 28 helped to raise $1034.50 for the Herkimer County Humane Society.

HCHS board members, staff and volunteers were available to serve a variety of wines and cheeses donated by local and regional food and beverage distributors to those who turned out for the fundraiser.
