‘History of Eagle Bay’ topic of program hosted by Big Moose Chapel, July 14th

The lake, camps, railroad, steamboats, snowmobiles and year-round tourists of Eagle Bay will come alive in words and pictures at a program at Big Moose Community Chapel on Tuesday, July 14 at 7 p.m.

Historian Dick Williams will lead the program, Eagle Bay in Words and Photos, that will include the history of hotels, stores, taverns and other businesses along with maps and photos from 50 to 100 years ago to present day.  Continue reading

Fulton Chain of Lakes Assn. updates local boat statistics in recent survey

Six times during the past 25 years the Fulton Chain of Lakes Association (FCLA) has conducted a survey of the number of various kinds of boats there are on the Fulton Chain of Lakes from Old Forge Pond to Fifth Lake.

The shoreline is divided up and board members volunteer to go along the shore in a boat, early in the morning before there are many boats on the lakes and count each category of boat.  Continue reading

Niccolls Church to host summer Fair Trade Sale, Saturday, July 12

The Mission Committee of Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church will host their semi-annual Alternative Marketplace at the church on Sunday, July 12 from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and again at 11 a.m. to noon.

This Fair Trade sale will offer a number of items including jewelry, religious items, scarves, household goods and spices from artisans around the world.  Continue reading

Karen Savoca Duo to perform in Inlet

Karen Savoca and Pete Heitzman will perform during Inlet’s “Sunsets by the Lake” Summer Concert Series on Saturday, July 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Arrowhead Lakefront.

All are invited to bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy the free concert and a spectacular sunset.

Applications being accepted locally for Legion Auxiliary Unit 893 Scholarship

The Covey-Pashley American Legion Auxiliary Unit #893 is accepting applications for the Mary Russell Continuing Education Scholarship.

The scholarship is named in honor of late auxiliary member, Mary Russell, who was a proponent of education and higher learning and always encouraged anyone who was willing to work hard to get a better education.  Continue reading
