Fulton Chain of Lakes Assn. updates local boat statistics in recent survey

Six times during the past 25 years the Fulton Chain of Lakes Association (FCLA) has conducted a survey of the number of various kinds of boats there are on the Fulton Chain of Lakes from Old Forge Pond to Fifth Lake.

The shoreline is divided up and board members volunteer to go along the shore in a boat, early in the morning before there are many boats on the lakes and count each category of boat.

They count boats that are visible from the water.

The last survey was completed on July 5, 2014.

In summary there are four percent more boats than when the previous count was last conducted in 2005.

Power boats make up 50 percent of the total boats on the lakes; non-motorized boats including sailboats, canoes, kayaks etc. account for the remaining boats.
