Naval Lieutenant Commander Helen Dolan sworn in, oath administered by her father

Helen Dolan of Deerfield and Thendara, who was recently selected for promotion to Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, was officially sworn in at a ceremony held at the Old Forge Covey Pashley American Legion Post #893 on Thursday, July 24th.

Her father, Vincent Dolan, 3rd vice commander of the legion, had the honor of issuing her the oath and pinning her.

Lt. Commander Dolan is a family nurse practitioner employed at Mohawk Valley Endocrinology in Utica.

She is also the daughter of Catherine Dolan of Thendara.

Memorial service set for Darwin P. Johnston

A memorial service for Darwin P. Johnston will be held on Saturday, August 2  at 11 a.m. at Niccolls Memorial Church in Old Forge.

Friends of Old Forge Library ready Bash Fundraiser for Aug. 10

Raffle items for the Friends of the Old Forge Library’s annual Library Bash are currently on display at the library. Tickets for the annual fundraiser, which will be held Sunday, August 10 from 4 to 6 p.m., are $15 and can be purchased during regular library hours.

Among the prize items and their donors are: Painting “Moose River Rapids” by Louise Watson; Signed “Eighth Army Air Force Series” by author Cheryl Pula; Children’s Books by The Friends of Old Forge Library; Painting in rustic frame made by Cheryl McCarley. Continue reading →

Woodgate Library: Meet the Artists event set July 30

The Woodgate Free Library will offer the public an opportunity to visit with two area artists, who are displaying work at the library, at a Meet the Artists event on Wednesday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Present at the event will be Barbara Green, owner of Adirondack Green House Basketry, whose work is on exhibit through the end of July, and Adirondack landscape photographer, Carolynn McCann. Continue reading →

Hannack hits hole-in-one at Inlet Golf Club

Travis Hannack of New Bedford, MA hit a hole-in-one at the Inlet Golf Club on Saturday, July 12th. He shot the ace on 145-yard Hole #2 using a 9 iron, with Don Scott, Levi Nugent and Jack Dogers witnessing the feat. Continue reading →

Town of Webb UFSD announces August Regents Schedule

The Town of Webb UFSD will offer August 2014 Regents to students who desire to take or retake the following exams at the dates and times listed:

Wednesday, August 13 – Morning exams from 8 to 11 a.m.: Algebra I, Comprehensive English, Geometry.
