The Woodgate Free Library will offer the public an opportunity to visit with two area artists, who are displaying work at the library, at a Meet the Artists event on Wednesday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m.
Present at the event will be Barbara Green, owner of Adirondack Green House Basketry, whose work is on exhibit through the end of July, and Adirondack landscape photographer, Carolynn McCann.
Green, who handcrafts a variety of styles of baskets, including the iconic Adirondack pack basket, periodically instructs classes at the Old Forge arts center, VIEW. She can also be found demonstrating her craft and selling her handiwork at fairs and festivals.
Earlier this year she was notified by representatives of Fort Stanwix National Monument that her baskets have been approved for sale at the historic site’s gift shop.
Though she said her baskets are considered “contemporary” as they are made of reed instead of the original ash composition, they were found to be authentic and true to the period following a three-tier review, thus qualifying them for sale at a National Museum gift store.
Carolynn McCann is an award-winning photographer whose work is currently on display at the CVW Long Lake Public Library. Her awards include a second place win in the 2014 Adirondack Life magazine photo contest, a grand prize at the 2013 “The Magic of Light” exhibit at the Rochester gallery, Image City, and Best in Show in the 2013 Long Lake Fall Photo Contest.
Her work has been featured at local galleries, including Gallery 3040, and others around the state and country.
Her exhibit at the Woodgate Library will be on display through the month of August.
The Woodgate Library is located at 11051 Woodgate Road. More information is available by calling (315) 392-4814.
