Coming Thursday, September 22nd Bistro & The Gallery: View welcomes renowned jazz vocalist Jane Monheit & the Montalbano Trio for special performance

In celebration of the 30th Annual Adirondack National Exhibition of American Water-colors, The Montalbano Trio, featuring international jazz vocalist, Jane Monheit, will perform at View in “Bistro and the Gallery,” on Thursday, September 22.

The Art Exhibition opens at 5 p.m. in the Gallery, followed by the performance in an Italian bistro setting in Gould Hall at 7 p.m.

Jazz vocalist Jane Monheit has performed in concert halls, cabarets and jazz venues around the globe.

She has released eight albums and two DVDs and has appeared as guest artist for other projects, that include singing, Over the Rainbow, in the movie Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Continue reading

Calypso’s Cove Charity Go-Kart Race raises $11,621 for local causes

The Noonan Family and the staff at Enchanted Forest/ Water Safari and Calypso’s Cove would like to thank all who participated and/or donated to make the 18th Annual Calypso’s Cove Charity Go-Kart Race such an outstanding success.

Despite the bad weather on Tuesday night, we were able to complete the race on Wednesday night, and we’re thankful that so many could come back for a second night in a row!

We are thrilled to announce that a total of $11,621 was raised, with $5,810.50 being donated to MAC’s Safe Ride and $5,810.50 to the Polar Bear Ski Club! Continue reading

Mountainman sponsoring 2011 Paddle for the Cure on Sept. 17

Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company of Old Forge will sponsor the 2011 Paddle for the Cure, a 6-mile leisurely paddle on the Moose River, on Saturday, September 17, with all proceeds from the fundraising event to support the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund.

This is the third year for the event. During last year’s event, 265 paddlers raised almost $15,000 for breast cancer research.

“Everyone at Mountainman really looks forward to this event. Participation grows every year and we get to meet some wonderful people. It’s a lot of fun and a fantastic way for us to fight a disease that affects so many families,” said John Nemjo, president of Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company. Continue reading

Inlet Fall Fest returning to Fern Park on Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 17 & 18

The 18th Annual Inlet Fall Festival is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18 at Fern Park on South Shore Road.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Among the handcrafted items that will be available for sale throughout the weekend are rustic furniture, pottery, decorative home accents, clothing, jams, jellies and maple syrup, scented candles and much more.

Local potter Greg Rudd will be on-hand to offer pottery demonstrations.

The Eagle Bay Fire Ladies Auxiliary, the Inlet Historical Society, the Inlet Public Library, St. Anthony’s Altar Rosary Society and the Knights of Columbus will also be hosting booths with some providing children’s games and activities. Continue reading

Inlet Wants You! To help do it again for the record

One Square Mile of Hope Committee member Adele Burnett reports that boat registrations for the Saturday, September 24 attempt to break the Guiness Book of World Record for largest floating raft formation, have surpassed the 1,000 mark.

So far participants from Canada and 11 states—including Florida and Texas—have already registered, and the committee anticipates a surge in registrations as they edge closer to the event. Continue reading

This weekend in Old Forge 45th Annual Fire School dedicated in memory of 9/11

The 45th Annual Firefighter’s Drill School hosted by the Old Forge Fire Department is set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 16 through 18.

Registration will be held at the Old Forge Fire Hall on Thursday, September 15 beginning at 6 p.m. and Friday, September 16, at 7:30 a.m. and again on Saturday, September 17 at 7:30 a.m.

Classes will be held Friday and Saturday at the Strand Theatre, Railroad Avenue and the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center and Pavilion on North Street.

Event co-organizer Jack Graham invites the public to observe the outdoor instructional classes from a safe distance. Continue reading

North Woods Lodge collecting goods for nearby flood victims

Members of North Woods Lodge #849 in Old Forge are collecting articles for flood victims within the NY state area.

The following articles are needed: clothing, boots, shoes, sneakers, jackets, sheets, blankets and pillows, non-perishable food items, and toiletries. Continue reading
