Old Forge: Record numbers march in 2013 Firefighter Parade

Fire fighters representing fire stations from across the state took part in the Old Forge Fire Department’s Drill School on Friday and Saturday, September 13 and 14th.

One of the highlights of the annual event is the Saturday parade up Main Street.

According to parade judge Jack Graham there were twice as many marchers then he had seen in previous years.

Old Forge Fire Dept. awards $52,500 to winners in annual Big Bucks give-away

The Old Forge Volunteer Fire Department’s Firefighter’s Drill School ‘13 wrapped up on Sunday, September 15 with the drawing for the winners in the Big Bucks Give-Away raffle.

A large crowd was gathered at the fire hall as Robert Moore  pulled the winning names.

Taking the top prize of $9,750 was Lisa Szot of Utica with lucky ticket #743.

The second place winner was Mary Henry of Raquette Lake who won $5,250 with ticket #243.

Charles Pennica of Rochester came in third place and was awarded $4,500 with ticket #758.

Fourth place winner of $3,750 was Paul Pratt of Chatham with ticket #558.

The four 5th place winners, each taking home $3,000 were: Tom Morley of Hackttstown, NJ – #194; Jarl and Ann Hasby of Old Forge – #1248; Sharon Daviau of Liverpool – #955; and Rachel Pocchiari of Old Forge – #1409.

There were four 6th place winners of $1,500: Myrtle Smith of Stony Point – #309; William Maher of Wappingers Falls – #1112; Linda Whiteman of Herkimer  – #650; Kathy Phillips, of Penn Yan  – #1158.

Old Forge Volunteer Fire Department to welcome visiting departments for 47th Annual Drill School

The 47th Annual Fire Fighter’s Drill School hosted by the Old Forge Fire Department is set for Friday, Satur-day and Sunday, September 13 through 15th.

Registration will be held at the Old Forge Fire Hall on Thursday, September 12 beginning at 6 p.m. and Friday, September 13 at 7:30 a.m. and again on Saturday, September 14 at 7:30 a.m.

Classes will be held Friday and Saturday at the Strand Theatre and at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center and Pavilion on North Street.

Outdoor instructional classes will be held on North Street and adjacent to the Fire Hall.

Old Forge Fire Dept. announces winning parade entries

Fire personnel from around the state came to Old Forge to take part in the 45th Annual Firefighters Drill School last weekend.

The weekend included classroom and outdoor instruction, a memorial service in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, and a firefighters parade up Main Street.

Following the parade, trophies were awarded to fire companies in the following categories:

Best Appearing Department with Music: Brighton Fire Department. Best Appearing Department without Music: 1st – Fuller Road, 2nd – Chatham, 3rd – Shaker Road, Loudonville. Best Appearing Saluting Officer: Verona. Continue reading

This weekend in Old Forge 45th Annual Fire School dedicated in memory of 9/11

The 45th Annual Firefighter’s Drill School hosted by the Old Forge Fire Department is set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 16 through 18.

Registration will be held at the Old Forge Fire Hall on Thursday, September 15 beginning at 6 p.m. and Friday, September 16, at 7:30 a.m. and again on Saturday, September 17 at 7:30 a.m.

Classes will be held Friday and Saturday at the Strand Theatre, Railroad Avenue and the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center and Pavilion on North Street.

Weekend of Sept. 16 thru 18 Old Forge Fire Dept: 45th Annual Drill School to Memorialize Events of 9/11

The 45th Annual Firefighter’s Drill School hosted by the Old Forge Fire Department is set for Friday, Satur-day and Sunday, September 16 through 18.

Registration will be held at the Old Forge Fire Hall on Thursday, September 15 beginning at 6 p.m. and Friday, September 16, at 7:30 a.m. and again on Saturday, September 17 at 7:30 a.m.

This year’s Fire School will carry the theme, In Memory of Our Fallen Heroes, in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. A Memorial Service is planned at the Fire Hall at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday featuring guest speaker Lt. Michael Wilbur of FDNY. Continue reading
