Saturday, September 4th Sign Up: Record participation in sight, but more needed for ‘One Square Mile’

One Square Mile of Hope is set to take place in Inlet’s Arrowhead Park on Saturday, September 24, rain or shine.

According to Inlet Tourism Director, Adele Burnett, as of midnight September 21, over 1,400 canoes, kayaks, and guide boats have registered to help break the World Record for Largest Floating Raft.

While the number of boats already registered may seem large, the current record to break is 1,619 and was set on June 5, 2010 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Tickets for the event benefit Susan G. Komen for the cure and are available online until midnight on Friday, September 23.

The fee is $25 with each extra passenger costing an additional $10. Continue reading

Inlet Wants You! To help do it again for the record

One Square Mile of Hope Committee member Adele Burnett reports that boat registrations for the Saturday, September 24 attempt to break the Guiness Book of World Record for largest floating raft formation, have surpassed the 1,000 mark.

So far participants from Canada and 11 states—including Florida and Texas—have already registered, and the committee anticipates a surge in registrations as they edge closer to the event. Continue reading
