Inlet Wants You! To help do it again for the record

One Square Mile of Hope Committee member Adele Burnett reports that boat registrations for the Saturday, September 24 attempt to break the Guiness Book of World Record for largest floating raft formation, have surpassed the 1,000 mark.

So far participants from Canada and 11 states—including Florida and Texas—have already registered, and the committee anticipates a surge in registrations as they edge closer to the event.

Registration is available online at: www.OneSquareMileofHope.org or in person by stopping at the Inlet Information Office. Online registration will end Friday, September 23.

Anyone who registers before 10 p.m. on Monday, September 19 will be entered in a drawing for a $50 gas card courtesy of Stewart Shoppes.

Once registered, participants need to present their signed waiver to pick up their event t-shirt. At that time they will also be assigned a launch site and be advised where to park.

Prior to the event, information can be picked up at the Inlet Information Office at the following days and times: Monday, September 19 through Wednesday, September 21 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, September 22 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Friday, September 23 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, info can be picked up from 7 to 10:30 a.m., however organizers encourage earlier pick-up to expedite sign-up for last minute registrants.

Before hitting the water on Saturday, the Church of the Lakes will hold an Ecumenical Service of Healing and Remembrance at 9:30 a.m.

A Health and Wellness Fair will be set up at Arrowhead Park and booths can be visited throughout the day, beginning at 9 a.m.

There will be Yoga, Tai Chi and Zumba demonstrations, a Chinese Auction and a Silent Auction, and raffles for three boats: a Necky Eliza, Hornbeck 10’ Canoe, and a Placid Boatworks Spitfire.

Musical entertainment will be provided all day by Donna Mucks, Gwen & Jim Tracy, The Troubadours of Divine Bliss, Joe Crookston, Open Book, and Karen Savoca & Pete Heitzman.

A buffet luncheon will be available following the Guinness world record attempt at noon.

“Our 2008 event was a powerful and emotional event. Let’s make 2011’s even better!” Burnett said.

The One Square Mile of Hope Committee invites all to a charity dinner at Billy’s Italian American Restaurant on Wednesday, September 21 where 20% of dinner sales will benefit their event.
