Irish Balladeer to perform at the Old Forge Library on August 11

Colleen Cleveland will perform a musical program, From Ireland to the Adirod-acks: 5 Generations of Songs and Ballads, at the Old Forge Library on Tuesday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Colleen is a descendant of Scottish and Irish settlers to the Brant Lake area of the Adirondacks. Her grandmother, Sara Cleveland, was a nationally recognized ballad singer in the 1960s. Colleen grew up going to festivals and learning the songs in the oral tradition.  Continue reading

Vocalist Karen Oberlin returns to VIEW on Saturday, August 8

Karen Oberlin, an acclaimed singer of the Great American Song-book, will return to VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge, for a performance on Saturday, August 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Oberlin, who frequently entertains at the Algonquin, Café Carlyle, Feinstein’s, and 54 Below in New York City, will include popular tunes sung by Doris Day at her VIEW performance. Continue reading

Parker Snead’s outstanding dedication and leadership improves Forestport

To the Editor: 

Parker Snead’s dedication and leadership in improving Forestport has been outstanding and this is coming from someone who has seen many supervisors come and go in my 76 years as a Forestport resident.

A little over a week ago, the efforts of our Parker Snead reelection committee hit a snag when his only two highway campaign signs were stolen.

Betty LaRue Curri

Local Artist and Astrologer Betty LaRue Curri of Herkimer passed into the hands of the Lord beneath a Blue Moon, on Saturday August 1, 2015 at Westmount Health Facility with her daughters by her side.

Born in Ohio on March 12, 1928, Betty was the daughter of the late Beryl LaRue and Anna Grady Emrick.

An avid fisherwoman, Betty loved the abundance of catch on the St. Lawrence River where she and her husband Nicholas J. Curri of Utica spent many summers with their three children.  Continue reading
