Local Artist and Astrologer Betty LaRue Curri of Herkimer passed into the hands of the Lord beneath a Blue Moon, on Saturday August 1, 2015 at Westmount Health Facility with her daughters by her side.

Born in Ohio on March 12, 1928, Betty was the daughter of the late Beryl LaRue and Anna Grady Emrick.

An avid fisherwoman, Betty loved the abundance of catch on the St. Lawrence River where she and her husband Nicholas J. Curri of Utica spent many summers with their three children. 

Betty enjoyed communing with nature, gardening and foraging in the woods. She was a fine markswoman, and often referred to as a “Pistol-packing mama.” At the same time she dressed in the height of fashion, and was known for her eye-catching outfits and classy style. Betty was a free spirited lover of a good time and a trendsetter. She was extremely humorous, highly intelligent with a quick wit, keeping those around her entertained.

Betty is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne Kelly-Curri of Lake George, and Annette Curri and her husband Paul Scheidelman of Eagle Bay NY; her son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas John Curri, Jr. and Zosima Curri of Cold Brook NY; her grandchildren, Ryan Kelly and his wife Ashley, Sean Kelly and his wife Lisa, Yvette Kelly-Bowman and her husband Andrew, Mikhail Gabriel Curri-Kelly, Elisha Pylman and her significant Ben Cohen, Nicholas G. Curri, Sharon Pape who passed on October 13, 2012, Clayton Curri who passed on June 28, 2010; and her great-grandchildren, Troy & Lauren Kelly, Delilah & Brenden Bowman, Lila Kelly, and Sierra Curri. She will also be remembered by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Nita and Frank Saporito of Utica, June and Gordon Anderson of Whitesboro; her brother and sister-in-law, Patrick “Emory” and Roseanne LaRue of Wisconsin; her nieces, nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by her sister, Mae Louise Morrison; her half sister, Carlene Hall; her half brothers, Robert Emrick, and Brice B. Emrick; and her son-in-law, Brian Kelly.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 8 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., Utica, NY 13501. (315-724-6714)

Betty’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Sister Elizabeth Giarrusso, CSJ officiating the ceremony.
