Baritone David Pershall and Mezzo-Soprano Krysty Swann will be accompanied by Arthur McManus in a memorable evening of great opera and Broadway hits at VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge, on Thursday, August 20.
David Pershall was recently featured in Voix des Arts “Best Artists of 2014” and praised for “[dispatching] his smooth, evenly produced lyric baritone with elegance and style” in Opera News.
His latest performances in the U.S. were at Minnesota Opera, as Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Washington National Opera, as Papageno in The Magic Flute, and at Carnegie Hall, as Lord Nottingham in Roberto Devereux for which he was hailed as “passionate and resonant” by The New York Times. Parker Snead has announced that he will be seeking reelection, having served his first term in office as Town of Forestport Supervisor.
Snead said that prior to his first campaign, he and other community members tried to rehabilitate two historic bridges that had fallen into disrepair before being condemned by the state. Continue reading

Over thirty community members from Old Forge and surrounding areas attended a meeting to brainstorm program ideas that would enable the aging community to live as independently as possible.

Old Forge American Legion Post #893 Auxiliary has named Jessica Menges as the recipient of the Mary Russell Continuing Education Scholarship.
Jessica, a 2012 graduate of Town of Webb School, is a student at Maine Maritime Academy of Castine, ME, where she is studying Marine Biology and Small Vessel Operations.
She is the daughter of Wendy and Kent Menges of Old Forge.
The scholarship is named in honor of late auxiliary member, Mary Russell, who was a proponent of education and higher learning.
Cycle Adirondacks will roll into Old Forge on Wednesday, August 26 with over 200 cyclists and a support crew who will be headquartered at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center on North Street.
Old Forge is the only layover town on this seven-day tour which starts and ends in Saranac Lake.
