Jonny Hirsh to perform at Old Forge Lakefront

The Summer Concert Series held on the Old Forge Lakefront on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. will feature Jonny Hirsch on August 9. Fusing elements of rock, funk, jazz, and skat singing with a powerful voice and a dynamic saxophone, Jonny Hirsch’s music has an original sound of its own, while staying true to its roots in new age blues and funk.

Everyone is welcome for this free concert and all should bring a chair or a blanket.

DEC okays snowmobile, recreational improvements for Tug Hill

Expanded recreational activities will be offered at the Tug Hill North Unit under the final Unit Management Plan (UMP) released on July 31 by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Acting Commissioner Marc Gerstman.

“The Tug Hill North UMP has been well-received locally and in particular by those who enjoy snowmobiling, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, trapping, cross-country skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities,” Gerstman said.  Continue reading

Reception set August 7th for library’s Carolynn McCann photography exhibit

Adirondack Landscape and Fine Art Photography, a solo exhibit featuring the work of award-winning artist Carolynn McCann, is currently on display at the Old Forge Library.

An Opening Exhibit Reception will be held on Friday, August 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. with acoustic music by Dan Vellone.

The public is invited to stop by for light refreshments, meet and visit with the artist and view her beautiful work.  Continue reading

Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts will present a live performance of the three-time Tony award winning play, Urinetown the Musical, at the Strand Theatre in Old Forge on Saturday, August 8 at 2 p.m.

Set in a world where water is scarce and corporations control the plumbing, Urinetown satirizes the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, municipal politics and corporate mismanagement.

In a Gotham-like city, a water shortage caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets.  Continue reading

Programs for all-age participants slated at Woodgate Library

All are welcome to attend upcoming programs at the Woodgate Library.

The Utica Zoomobile will make a visit to the library on Saturday, August 8 at 7 p.m.  This is a chance to see and learn about a variety of different animals. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Continue reading

Niccolls Church accepting Aug. Food Sense orders

Niccolls Memorial Presby-terian Church is taking orders for the Food Sense package for August. Each “unit” costs $15.50. This program is open to all. There are no eligibility requirements nor is there any obligation to purchase food every month.

The August unit consists of ground beef, Pollock fillets, Polish sausage, chicken strips, cheddar cheese, fresh macaroni salad, Hamburger Helper, applesauce, frozen vegetable, pork & beans and two fresh produce items. Continue reading
