Thousands enjoy McCauley ride and view over holiday weekend

Columbus Weekend crowds lined up for chair rides up McCauley

The McCauley Mountain chairlift’s last run of the fall season was Columbus Day, Monday, October 10, and according to McCauley Manager Steve Uzdavinis over 2,500 people enjoyed the scenic attraction throughout the three-day holiday weekend.

“That’s 1,700 to 1,800 families that came up to McCauley-that’s taking care of a lot of recreational needs in a short period of time,” Uzdavinis said.

According to Uzdavinis it was one of the busiest Columbus Day weekends on record, with 977 riding the chairlift on Sunday alone.

Uzdavinis reported lots of activity at McCauley throughout the summer and fall, but his crew’s busiest season is yet to come.

“Although McCauley is closed, now is the time we have to work the hardest to get ready for ski season. We plan to be ready to open as early as Thanksgiving. All of the natural indicators say that could happen-and we’re looking forward to it,” he said.
