Inlet: 13th Annual Frozen Fire & Lights lives up to name

The 13th Annual Frozen Fire & Lights festival in Inlet began with the coronation of King Greg Rudd and his Queen Toni in front of a snowy Adirondack “throne” near Inlet Town Hall.

Former King and Queen Paul and Reggie Chambers did the honors.

Adirondack rail advocates get support from preservation society

The Remsen-to-Lake Placid Travel Corridor has just been placed on the 2016 list of historic properties to be saved, by the Preservation League of New York State, creating a potential pause to rail removal being proposed from Tupper Lake to Lake Placid.

The Preservation League draws statewide attention to New York’s most important and at-risk historic places through its “Seven to Save” list of endangered places. Continue reading

Henry Uzdavinis named U20 champ; Nordic Youth Polar Bears race to 1st in recent competitions

Coach Janine Phaneuf’s Polar Bear Ski Club Nordic Youth Team competed in a Skate Race at McCauley Mountain on Sunday, February 21 and the NYSSRA Nordic Championship Races held at the Ski Bowl in North Creek on February 28th.

The Polar Bears had astonishing results in both competitions with individual racers placing first in all the respective age groups. Continue reading

Kiwanis raises over $5,000 at annual Winter Sports Challenge

Over 100 people participated in the 16th Annual Central Adirondack Kiwanis Club Winter Sports Challenge in Old Forge on Saturday, February 6, 2015. The event was a part of the Old Forge Winter Carnival. The proceeds, estimated at over $5,000, will be used to fund continuing Central Adirondack Kiwanis children’s projects.  Continue reading

Sherry Lyon, organizer of the 2016 Annual Kenny Lyon Sr. Memorial Fishing Derby, is happy to report the results of this year’s event that was held Friday and Saturday, February 27 and 28 on First through Fourth Lakes.

The categories and winners are as follows:

Northern Pike

1st  Marcus Fruin of Lyons Falls – 12 lbs.10 oz.; 37”

2nd  Issac Zehr of  Lowville – 11 lbs. 5 oz.; 34 3/4”
