Janice Smith Scott
Janice “Pookie” Smith Scott, 71, died at her home on June 16, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Janice was born in New York but had resided in Gloucester, VA for many years, and she loved going back home to Old Forge, New York for visits.
She was a former secretary and bookkeeper for the Gloucester Moose Lodge. Janice enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles. Her greatest love was for family and spending time with her granddaughter, Hallie. Continue reading

Officials of various agencies who helped make the Old Forge/Thendara Community Shuttle a reality were in Old Forge on Thursday, June 18 for a tour of the routes that will be traveled by three shuttles throughout the summer.
The service commenced the same day and will continue through September 6.
The shuttle service is made possible by primary sponsors Herkimer County, the Town of Webb and the Central Adirondack Association. Continue reading

Tyler McGough, a senior at the Town of Webb School, was recently awarded the Kirsty Sutherland Scholarship for Culinary Arts and Entrepreneurship through the Community Scholarship Fund and the Sutherland family.
The scholarship was created in celebration of the life and life’s work of the late Kirsty Sutherland who exemplified the best of entrepreneurship and devoted her life to the culinary arts.
The scholarship was given to Tyler to encourage him, and other young people, to go forward with their careers and develop that passion into a business.
The scholarship will assist Tyler with his expenses as he enters SUNY Alfred in the fall to study mechanical engineering.
Inlet Common School students and teachers, and Inlet Historical Society members.
The students and teachers of the Inlet Common School were the first to try out the Inlet Historical Society 2015 Kids’ Scavenger Hunt on Wednesday, June 17.
The students started at the Inlet Historical Society building with a brief talk by Town Historian Letty Haynes, then walked over to the Inlet Information Office where the hunt begins. (Directions for the hunt can be picked up at the office.) Continue reading
David Beck
David Beck was named to the President’s List at Mohawk Valley Community College for the spring 2015 semester.
Beck, who earned the same honor in the fall 2014 semester, achieved a 4.0 grade point average for the spring semester and an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.91 for the school year.
The President’s List includes students who achieve a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Earlier this year Beck was tapped to become a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honorary society. His major is Web Development and Information Design. Continue reading

The Town of Webb was one of two municipalities selected by Herkimer County HealthNet’s Wellness Committee to receive funding for playground projects as part of the Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play in Herkimer County Grant.
The Town of Webb received the 2015 Creating Healthy Places Sub-Award. The Town is working on the McCauley Mountain Playground Project, budgeted for $7,093.
This project includes the installation of a boat playground structure and sturdy rustic swings at the McCauley Mountain Playground Complex. Continue reading

The BombERNs touched down in Long Lake to take on the Hooters of Owl’s Head Pub. The Tavernistas, attempting their first win, left empty handed. The final verdict was 11-9.
High on spirit, led by bus DJ Robin Murdock, our girls sang their way into and out of Long Lake.
Now, having been teased by their still elusive first victory, the girls seemed to have settled into form. Continue reading
