Janice “Pookie” Smith Scott, 71, died at her home on June 16, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Janice was born in New York but had resided in Gloucester, VA for many years, and she loved going back home to Old Forge, New York for visits.

She was a former secretary and bookkeeper for the Gloucester Moose Lodge. Janice enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles. Her greatest love was for family and spending time with her granddaughter, Hallie. Continue reading

Inlet school students test run new historical scavenger hunt

The students and teachers of the Inlet Common School were the first to try out the Inlet Historical Society 2015 Kids’ Scavenger Hunt on Wednesday, June 17.

The students started at the Inlet Historical Society building with a brief talk by Town Historian Letty Haynes, then walked over to the Inlet Information Office where the hunt begins. (Directions for the hunt can be picked up at the office.) Continue reading

David Beck

David Beck was named to the President’s List at Mohawk Valley Community College for the spring 2015 semester.

Beck, who earned the same honor in the fall 2014 semester, achieved a 4.0 grade point average for the spring semester and an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.91 for the school year.

The President’s List includes students who achieve a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Earlier this year Beck was tapped to become a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honorary society. His major is Web Development and Information Design. Continue reading

Webb receives playground grant from Herkimer County HealthNet

The Town of Webb was one of two municipalities selected by Herkimer County HealthNet’s Wellness Committee to receive funding for playground projects as part of the Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play in Herkimer County Grant.

The Town of Webb received the 2015 Creating Healthy Places Sub-Award. The Town is working on the McCauley Mountain Playground Project, budgeted for $7,093.

This project includes the installation of a boat playground structure and sturdy rustic swings at the McCauley Mountain Playground Complex.  Continue reading
