Inlet Historical Society hosts town walking tour on July 18

The Inlet Hisorical Society will host a Historical Walking Tour of Inlet on Saturday, July 18.

The tour will begin from the Inlet Common School on Route 28 at 10 a.m. and ends at the Inlet Historical Society building where refreshments will be served.

On Saturday, July 25, the organization will host a Cruise-In Car Show at Arrowhead Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Inlet Historical Society to host a program on Keith’s Diner, July 16

The Inlet Historical Society will present a program, Keith’s Diner Remembered, at the Inlet Town Hall on Thursday, July 16 at 7 p.m.

Charles Herr will talk about memorable Keith’s Diner and the pre- and post-history of what occupied its location.  Continue reading

Inlet school students test run new historical scavenger hunt

The students and teachers of the Inlet Common School were the first to try out the Inlet Historical Society 2015 Kids’ Scavenger Hunt on Wednesday, June 17.

The students started at the Inlet Historical Society building with a brief talk by Town Historian Letty Haynes, then walked over to the Inlet Information Office where the hunt begins. (Directions for the hunt can be picked up at the office.) Continue reading

Inlet Historical Society to offer Rocky Point Inn talk

The Inlet Historical Society’s first program of the 2015 summer season will be a presentation by Charles Herr on the history of the popular Rocky Point Inn.

The program will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 18 at the Inlet Town Hall.

For almost a century of its existence, the Inn was a popular Fourth Lake hotel catering to customers of all walks of life, including Errol Flynn and Mary Pickford.  Continue reading

Inlet Historical Society to host Walking Tour

Inlet Town Historian  Letty Haynes and Inlet native Waddie Kalil will lead a historical walking tour of the Inlet business district on Saturday, August 16th.

The tour, sponsored by the Inlet Historical Society, will begin at 10 a.m. and will  focus on the people, places and businesses that formed Inlet’s rich history.

It will begin from the Inlet Common School and proceed down Main Street, ending at the Historical Society building. All are welcome.

Holl’s Inn program to follow Inlet Historical Society annual meeting

The Inlet Historical Society will hold its annual Membership Meeting in the Senior Room of the Inlet Town Hall on Wednesday, August 13 at 6 p.m.

The meeting will include members’ nomination/election of officers, present and future operations plans, reports about finances, membership, building usage, funding efforts and other affairs of interest to the membership. Continue reading

Inlet Historical Society seeking rightful homes for Holl’s commemorative plates

Last year, the Inlet Historical Society received over 300 plates made by the Holl’s Inn family commemorating their guests’ weddings and other celebrations held at the historic hotel over a period of 70 years. a fred hodges DSC07875

Since then, a few have come forward and have recovered the memorial plate for their family.

Members of the Historical Society have put together a list of the names of the folks on the remaining plates, including the date of the special occasion. Continue reading
