Local 4-H member advances in public speaking competition

Thirty-two Herkimer County 4-H members participated in 4-H Public Presentations held at the Herkimer High School on Thursday, March 3rd.

The 4-H members, from all over Herkimer County, took turns giving illustrated talks, demonstrations, or job and college interviews in front of judges who evaluated their presentation skills.  Continue reading

Herkimer County to host Walkable Communities Workshop, Luncheon

Herkimer County HealthNet will be hosting a Walkable Communities Workshop and Recognition Luncheon on Friday, September 25.

The workshop starts at 9 a.m. and the luncheon will take place at 12 p.m.

The event will be held at the Village of Ilion Municipal Auditorium, 49 Morgan Street, Ilion. The public is encouraged to attend.  Continue reading

Herkimer County seeking candidates for college Board of Trustees position

The Herkimer County Legislature’s Committee on Education is seeking candidates for a local-sponsor appointment to the Herkimer County Community Collage Board of Trustees.

Webb receives playground grant from Herkimer County HealthNet

The Town of Webb was one of two municipalities selected by Herkimer County HealthNet’s Wellness Committee to receive funding for playground projects as part of the Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play in Herkimer County Grant.

The Town of Webb received the 2015 Creating Healthy Places Sub-Award. The Town is working on the McCauley Mountain Playground Project, budgeted for $7,093.

This project includes the installation of a boat playground structure and sturdy rustic swings at the McCauley Mountain Playground Complex.  Continue reading

Herkimer County health agency releases local foods map, guide

As part of a campaign for Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work, and Play in Herkimer County, Herkimer County HealthNet and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Herkimer County are distributing the 2015 edition of the Herkimer County Local Foods Map.

As part of a grant from the New York State Department of Health, the Herkimer County Local Foods Map is a project aimed to increase awareness of local foods produced in our area and to increase healthy eating.  Continue reading
