Herkimer County to host Walkable Communities Workshop, Luncheon

Herkimer County HealthNet will be hosting a Walkable Communities Workshop and Recognition Luncheon on Friday, September 25.

The workshop starts at 9 a.m. and the luncheon will take place at 12 p.m.

The event will be held at the Village of Ilion Municipal Auditorium, 49 Morgan Street, Ilion. The public is encouraged to attend.

The Walkable Communities Workshop will focus on making our roadways and walkable environments more attractive to people as well as support and promote the concept of Complete Streets.

A Complete Streets community is committed to making roadways safer and more accessible for all users and all abilities: motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, people in wheelchairs, seniors, and transit riders.

Properly utilizing our streets will promote better health and wellness in our communities and enhance our county’s infrastructure, furthering economic development in Herkimer County.

The event will include an interactive workshop with local community representatives and residents, a Walkability Study of the Morgan and West Streets area of Ilion, as well as a free light lunch.

Herkimer County HealthNet will also recognize municipalities, organizations, and individuals that have made a difference in Creating Healthy Places in Herkimer County.

The workshop and luncheon are funded by the NY State Department of Health, Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work, and Play Grant and administered by Herkimer County HealthNet.
