The Town of Webb was one of two municipalities selected by Herkimer County HealthNet’s Wellness Committee to receive funding for playground projects as part of the Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play in Herkimer County Grant.

The Town of Webb received the 2015 Creating Healthy Places Sub-Award. The Town is working on the McCauley Mountain Playground Project, budgeted for $7,093.

This project includes the installation of a boat playground structure and sturdy rustic swings at the McCauley Mountain Playground Complex.

The grant application was prepared by Nick Rose, Director of CAP-21, on behalf of the Town of Webb.

The Village of Herkimer received $7,507 for its High Hopes for Hoops project which will improve basketball courts, a tennis court, a baseball batting cage and other recreational equipment at area parks and fields.

Through an application process, municipalities and non-profit organizations in Herkimer County (that have previously received funding under Herkimer County HealthNet’s Creating Healthy Places Program) were able to apply.

Both recipients’ applications utilized matching and/or in-kind contributions to strengthen their proposals.

Both municipalities presented maintenance and safety plans in their applications as well as measuring tools that report usage of the playgrounds after the installation of the equipment.

In addition, both awardees have identified community partners to assist in the work and promotion of the playgrounds to encourage more physical activity among children and children at heart in these communities.

Herkimer County HealthNet’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of individuals who live, work, play, and learn in Herkimer County.
