The students and teachers of the Inlet Common School were the first to try out the Inlet Historical Society 2015 Kids’ Scavenger Hunt on Wednesday, June 17.

The students started at the Inlet Historical Society building with a brief talk by Town Historian Letty Haynes, then walked over to the Inlet Information Office where the hunt begins. (Directions for the hunt can be picked up at the office.)

The goal of the hunt is to find each of 12 locations, all of which are within walking distance of the Inlet Town Hall. At each location there is a “treasure box” must be found.

Inside the box is a picture and brief history of something that used to be at that location, small trinkets (if you take a trinket from the box you must replace it with another one) and an Adirondack word or phrase that must be written down on the direction sheet.

Once all 12 locations have been found and all 12 words collected, sheets are returned to the Inlet Information Office.

If the answers are correct you can sign the brag book and collect a sticker.

This scavenger hunt will continue throughout the summer. The committee is also working on an adult version of the Scavenger Hunt that will be ready soon and takes participants to 17 locations around town.

The scavenger hunts were organized by the Inlet Historical Society’s Collections Committee which includes Dianne Thibado, Ron Dearlove, Sue Beck, Letty Haynes, Jean Bird, Edie Schreppel and Julie Biehn.

Photos are provided by Dianne Thibado, Mitch Lee, Charlie Herr and Letty Haynes. Sarah Frey and Brandon DiMartino provided some extra history to be included in the hunts.
