DEC offers special camping gift-card package for holidays

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is offering a two-day “Wilderness Bundle” outdoor gift package, DEC Commissioner Joe Martens has announced.

On both Black Friday, November 28, and Cyber Monday, December 1, anyone who purchases a $50 DEC camping gift card will receive a bonus additional $25 camping gift card, a one-year subscription to the New York State Conservationist magazine, and a copy of the New York Wildlife Viewing Guide. Ad’k Christmas on Main Street returning Nov. 28, 29 & 30

Inlet gearing for holiday visitors

The Town of Inlet invites all to enjoy the festivities planned for its Adirondack Christmas on Main Street celebration on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 28, 29, and 30.

Stop by the Inlet Information Office when you get to town for a list of shops that will be open. While you are there, you can drop off your letters to Santa.

At the end of day bring your receipts from purchases made at Inlet businesses and receive a raffle ticket for every $10 spent to qualify to win a Holiday Basket.  Continue reading

APA public meeting at Old Forge gym rescheduled for Monday, November 24

The Adirondack Park Agency’s public listening session scheduled for Tuesday, November 18 in Old Forge was cancelled due to questionable weather and has been rescheduled for Monday, November 24 at the Town of Webb School gymnasium from 4 to 6 p.m.

The APA is soliciting public comment on possible amendments to the Adirondack Park State Land Master Plan.  Continue reading

Old Forge: Piano Recital set Thursday, December 4

Piano students of Valerie Gaudin will present their annual Holiday Piano Recital on Thursday, December 4 at 7 p.m. at Niccolls Memorial Church.

Enjoy sounds of the season performed by Fern Bailey, Chloe Barkauskas, Allyson Brosemer, Chloe Brosemer, Megan DeFilipps, Clifford Donovan, Alexis Hollister, Alivia Hopsicker, Holly Kalil, Olivia Phaneuf and Jack Rivet.

Refreshments will be served immediately following the performance.

The recital is open to the public.

Student climate summit should follow with critical analysis

Webb students have learned how to think for themselves by the teachings of Mikko Myllykoski of Finland.

Our students attended the ADK Youth Climate Summit at the Tupper Wild Center.

The dangers of carbon dioxide and the advantages of converting our homes to electric heating and the need for legislation to eliminate smoke production both in our homes and in our power stations is emphasized.  Continue reading
