Remsen–Lake Placid Corridor: Ad’k Park Agency approves amendments, allows for rail removal north of Tupper Lake

The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) determined that proposed amendments to the 1996 Remsen – Lake Placid Travel Corridor Unit Management Plan/FSEIS (The 2016 Plan) conforms to the Adirondack Park State Land Master Plan (APSLMP).

This determination was made after APA deliberated during  its February board meeting.

The APA will now forward the conformance resolution to the Commissioners of the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Depart-ment of Transportation for final adoption.  Continue reading

Ad’k Park Agency offering economic planning, assistance program

The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) is offering a new service to assist Adirondack Park municipalities with economic development strategies that would invigorate existing hamlet areas.

Strategies should seek to identify new business opportunities, revitalize existing community assets and, if feasible, establish connections to Forest Preserve resources.

APA recently completed a pilot project of the Hamlet Economic Planning and Assistance program (HEPA) in partnership with the Village of Northville and the Town of Northampton (Fulton County).  Continue reading

Evironmental group critical of APA, DEC handling of Adirondacks

A report released this week concludes that New York’s Adirondack Park faces serious threats

A report issued this week by Adirondack Wild: Friend of the Forest Preserve concludes that the Adirondack Park faces serious threats due to state failures in recent years to protect and preserve the Park’s wild forest character and natural resources.

The report, titled “The Adirondack Park at a Crossroad: A Road Map for Action,” says the APA and DEC are failing to fulfill their legal obligations to protect and preserve sensitive Park wildlife, wilderness, open space, and water resources.  Continue reading

Adirondack Park Agency approves general permits to fight invasive species in the Park

The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) approved two general permits to advance New York State’s goal to combat invasive species in the Adirondack Park, according to APA Chairwoman Lani Ulrich.

The general permits are intended to assure that qualified invasive species management organizations have the ability to respond quickly to invasive species infestations.

General Permits 2015G-1 and 2014G-1A authorize a rapid response to both aquatic and terrestrial invasive species.  Continue reading

APA proposes permit plan to fight invasive species in Adirondacks

The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) is seeking public comment on two general permits to advance New York State’s goal to combat invasive species in the Adirondack Park.

The general permits will streamline and expedite the Park Agency’s review process.

This will ensure qualified invasive species management organizations have the ability to quickly respond to invasive species infestations, according to APA Chairwoman Lani Ulrich. Continue reading

Ad’k Park Agency trumpets legal, economic and environmental successes

The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) recently issued a statement describing  accomplishments that occurred in 2014, including legal successes and improvements to the Park’s economic and natural resource environments.

Key Legal Division accomplishments for 2014 included dismissal by the 3rd Department Appellate Division of NYS Supreme Court of a challenge to the Agency’s 2012 approval of the Adirondack Club and Resort project in Tupper Lake.   Continue reading
