Elvis Show coming to Old Forge lakefront
The Summer Concert Series held on the Old Forge Lakefront on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. will feature Joe Angerosa and The Elvis Show, on August 3rd.
Angerosa has been performing an Elvis tribute for over 25 years. The Utica native has been dubbed “the best Elvis this side of the Mississippi.”
His performances, well over 500 to date, have taken him to such places as Las Vegas, Canada, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Memphis, where every performance has received critical acclaim.
Everyone is welcome to bring a folding chair of blanket to the free concert. Rain location is the Hiltebrant Recreation Center Pavilion on North Street.
Home Sweet Adirondack Home ~ An Essay
In my home away from my “Adirondack home,” I had just finished reading a book “Everything That Remains” by Joshua Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus, young authors who have become known as “The Minimalists.”
While embarking on a 100-city tour across the United States they have appeared on MSNBC along with conducting several interviews regarding their lifestyle changes and the benefits of what they call a “minimalist lifestyle.” Continue reading
Eagle Bay Fire Dept. & Auxiliary set Chicken & Rib BBQ, Aug. 2
The Eagle Bay Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary will host a Chicken and Rib Barbecue at the Eagle Bay Fire Hall located on Rte. 28 on Saturday, August 2 from noon until all is sold out. Folks can eat in or take out.
Local Master BBQ Chef Eric Sutherland will return to prepare the barbecue. The event is catered by Red Dog Tavern.
Inlet Historical Society seeking rightful homes for Holl’s commemorative plates
Last year, the Inlet Historical Society received over 300 plates made by the Holl’s Inn family commemorating their guests’ weddings and other celebrations held at the historic hotel over a period of 70 years.
Since then, a few have come forward and have recovered the memorial plate for their family.
Members of the Historical Society have put together a list of the names of the folks on the remaining plates, including the date of the special occasion. Continue reading
VIEW to present Man of La Mancha performance on Tuesday, August 5th
Pendragon Theatre will present a production of the Tony Award-winning musical, Man of La Mancha, at VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge on Tuesday, August 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Man of La Mancha, the story of “mad” knight, Don Quixote, won five Tony Awards in 1966, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.
The principal song, The Impossible Dream, has become a musical theatre standard. Continue reading
Local and visiting 4-H’ers enjoy local and Upstate NY attractions
The Oneida County 4-H Teen Council and members of the Robertson County, Tennessee 4-H Exchange Club enjoyed a day of fun at Enchanted Forest Water Safari on Tuesday, July 1st.
“We had a great time and thank the Enchanted Forest for a great day in the sun,” said Oneida County 4-H member Paige Schweinsberg of Old Forge.
The trip to the water park was just one of the local and regional attractions visited by the teens during the week-long 4-H exchange excursion.
While in Old Forge, the 4-H members also climbed Bald Mountain, and in the course of the week visited Vernon Downs, Corning Glass Works, and the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
