View sets Secret Garden Tour on July 24th

The annual Secret Garden Tour sponsored by VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge will take place in Old Forge on Thursday, July 24th. The tour provides an opportunity to visit local gardens at private residences within a 10-mile radius.

Celebration of Life set July 27 for Tim Durkin

A celebration of the life of Tim Durkin, who passed away on June 5, 2014, will be held at Mulligans at the Inlet Golf Club on Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 6  until 9 p.m. A second celebration will be held at the Shadow Lake Golf Club in Rochester on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Inlet Golf Club holds tourney

Inlet Golf Club held its annual Member-Guest Tournament on Saturday, July 12. The contest included a Women’s Flight and A and B Men’s Flights.

View: Singing phenom Nick Ziobro to perform on Saturday, July 26th

Rising star Nick Ziobro, a native upstate New Yorker and winner of the 2012 Great American Songbook Competition, will perform at VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge, on Saturday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m.

He will be joined on stage by a quintet of acclaimed musicians:Mary Sugar, piano; Rob Robson, trumpet; Brian Scherer, reeds; Peter Allen, bass; and Doug DiGennaro on drums.

Ziobro, a 2014 graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School, will be studying theatre at Rider University in New Jersey this fall.  Continue reading

Ad’k Storytelling & Music Festival returning Sunday

The Old Forge Library’s Adirondack Storytelling and Music Festival is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 20 from 12 to 2 p.m. under the tent on the Forge Motel Knoll.

Award-winning musicians and singer/songwriters John Kirk, Trish Miller and Roy Hurd will perform as well as Adirondack Storyteller Bill Smith. Continue reading

Inlet’s Arts in the Park slated for July 19 & 20

More than 70 artists and craftsmen will set up at Arrowhead Park in Inlet on Saturday and Sunday, July 19 and 20 for the 38th Annual Arts in the Park festival.

Among the items for sale will be pottery, quilts, handmade/ hand-embroidered apparel, wrought iron, floral designs, jewelry, wall hangings, sand art, metal products, wooden items, furniture, photography, bird houses, leather items, fishing lures, redwood signs, and lawn ornaments.  Continue reading

Farmers Market coupons available Aug. 1

Coupons can be used to purchase fruits and vegetables at any participating Herkimer County Farmers’ Market.

You qualify if you are at least 60 years of age and have a monthly income at or below $1,800 for a one-person household, $2,426 for a two-person household, $3,051 for a three-person household, or are at least 60 years of age and currently receiving or eligible to receive SSI, food stamps, public assistance, or Section 8 housing subsidy.

Booklets are limited to one per household.

Coupons will be distributed at th Old Forge Farmers’ Market on Friday, August 1 from 2 to 4 p.m.
