Ad’k Storytelling & Music Festival returning Sunday

The Old Forge Library’s Adirondack Storytelling and Music Festival is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 20 from 12 to 2 p.m. under the tent on the Forge Motel Knoll.

Award-winning musicians and singer/songwriters John Kirk, Trish Miller and Roy Hurd will perform as well as Adirondack Storyteller Bill Smith.

John Kirk and Trish Miller entertain with a diverse repertoire of original and traditional music. Their shows appeal to audiences of all ages with quick pickin’ tunes, sentimental songs, chorus participation and percussive clog dancing.

Kirk and Miller take turns playing guitar, banjo, mandolin and syncopated rhythm steps as part of their shows.

Roy Hurd is one of the best known singer/songwriters in the Adirondacks. His appeal lies as much in his storytelling as it does his smooth vocal delivery and clear guitar work.

Hurd has held a staff songwriting position in Nashville, and was a writer for Sony Music Publishing and Warner/Chappell Music from 1990-2001.

Bill Smith is known throughout the Adirondacks and beyond as a master storyteller and balladeer.

He delights audiences everywhere with his repertoire of humorous tales that he learned from his father who was a logger, hunter and trapper and songs and poems that were taught to him by his mother.

All are welcome to bring a blanket or a folding chair and enjoy the performances.

The festival is funded by:  Central Adirondack Association, Mountain Greenery, The Strand Theatre, Touch of Ritz and NYSCA: the Presenting Program. Donations will be accepted and appreciated.
