Old Forge Winter Carnival bustles with family outdoor activity

The Old Forge Winter Carnival on February 14, 15 and 16 featured a parade up Main Street, ice skating, and various other outdoor family activities and competitions at McCauley Mountain.

This year’s king and queen, Tim and Patty Foley, were crowned at a coronation ceremony on Saturday night that was preceded by torchlight and daredevil skiing.

A fireworks display, music by Joe Bolton and John Christy, and dancing at the McCauley Chalet followed. Continue reading

Snowshoe Quest challenges racers at McCauley Mountain

The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adiron-dacks held its 14th Annual Kiwanis Winter Sports Challenge on Saturday, February 15 at McCauley Mountain.

The event included the traditional cross-country ski and snowshoe treks to raise funds for various Kiwanis children’s projects and the Kommunity Youth and Activity Center (KYAC) in Old Forge. race startThe 4th Annual Mountainman McCauley Mountain Snowshoe Quest, a 6 km distance Racers Points Series Race—part of the Dion Empire State Snowshoe Series—was also held on Saturday.  Continue reading

’14 Old Forge Winter Carnival to tip cap to Olympics, honor the memory of Kyle Riedman

Plenty of festivities are planned for the Old Forge Winter Carnival which will be held at McCauley Mountain and other town venues on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, February 14, 15 and 16th.

This year’s carnival theme, Old Forge Loves the Olympics, celebrates Valentine’s Day and the winter games with a variety of Olympic-themed activities planned throughout the weekend in recognition of Erin Hamlin’s history-making bronze medal win in women’s luge.

Ad’k Cardboard Sled Race Circuit sets local races

Four races remain on the Adirondack Cardboard Sled Race Circuit, with racers needing three events of the season’s five to qualify for the circuit championship.

Annual Frozen Fire & Lights: Inlet planning day of family fun

The Town of Inlet is getting ready for its 12th annual Frozen Fire & Lights on Saturday, February 22—a fun-filled day for the whole family.

The winter festival will include a book sale, ice skating, sledding and cross-country skiing opportunities at Fern Park, bonfires and fireworks.

A new addition to the day will be 120cc and Kitty Kat Fun Run races that will start at 3 p.m. at Fern Park.

Registration for the 4th Annual Cardboard Sled Race at Fern Park starts at 12:15 p.m. with the races beginning at 1 p.m.

This is the second of five in the Adirondack Cardboard Sled Race Circuit which began at Long Lake’s Winter Carnival on January 18th.

To qualify to win, you must enter the same sled in at least three of the five available races. Continue reading

Raquette Lake Winter Carnival: Activities set for Feb. 15 & 16

Raquette Lake Winter Carnival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, February 15 and 16 at various venues throughout the village along with snowshoe outings at Great Camp Sagamore.

The weekend kicks off on Saturday at 10 a.m. with activities for the kids, competitions and games.

At noon the Ladies Frying Pan Toss and Golf Drive competitions will begin.  Continue reading
