Parker Snead’s outstanding dedication and leadership improves Forestport

To the Editor:

Parker Snead’s dedication and leadership in improving Forestport has been outstanding and this is coming from someone who has seen many supervisors come and go in my 76 years as a Forestport resident.

A little over a week ago, the efforts of our Parker Snead reelection committee hit a snag when his only two highway campaign signs were stolen.

Within a few days, eight more of our signs were also stolen.  Continue reading

Forestport election season returns along with illegal tactics

To the Editor:

On Thursday, July 23, the Parker Snead Reelection Committee distributed 8-9 lawn signs to various residents and highway locations in the Town of Forestport. These signs feature the words: “Parker Loves Forestport” on a bright red and blue background.

The two highway locations were at the junction of the North Lake Road and Bardwell Mills Road by the railroad tracks in Buffalo Head and the other sign was located at the Route 28 Forestport off ramp by the overpass.  Continue reading

Burke’s Marina supports community and Raquette Lake Fire Department

To the Editor:

We live in an area where we are most dependent on tourism, and in turn, good customer service. We find good customer service in most businesses and service industries.

However, I would like to especially recognize Burke’s Marina in Raquette Lake. Michael and Nora Burke and all their staff have a reputation for great customer service, flexibility and just plain good old “treat others as you would like to be treated” philosophy.   Continue reading

LETTER: Flag shows Southern States’ ugly, bigoted mindset

To the Editor:

Despite the efforts to sugar coat the Confederate flag with “the noble traditions of history, heritage and ancestry” (S.C. Gov. Haley ), the genesis of this hate filled emblem clearly shows the ugly, bigoted mindset of the Southern States when they seceded.

William Thompson, the designer of the “Stars and Bars,” the primary Confed-erate flag, labeled it the “stainless banner” because of its mainly white color. He called it “the white man’s flag” noting that the hugely white color symbolized “the supremacy of the white man.”  Continue reading

Low water level an unpleasant surprise

To the Editor:

Having traveled 2,500 miles to enjoy our summer at camp in Old Forge was I ever surprised to find nothing under my dock on the Channel but mud. I had cheered local businesses all winter as I read reports of plentiful snow. Where did it go?

If I were a cynic I might suspect a plot to suppress news of the lack of water. This has to be the story of the spring. Where is the reporting? What happened? What is the prognosis for the summer? What is the economic impact if boat owners cannot put their boats in the water? Is the diving platform at the Town Beach in deep enough water to be safe?

So many questions, so few answers.
