VIEW: Call for entry for 2016 Adirondack National Exhibition of American Watercolors

VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge, has announced a call for entries for the 2016 Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors.

The exhibition is open to all artists working in water-based media on paper.

This includes transparent and opaque watercolors, acrylics, casein, egg tempera, gouache, and ink. Continue reading

North Woods Lodge #849 F&AM of Old Forge raised two Master Masons in the lodge room at North Woods Community Center on Thursday, March 3rd.

Before undertaking the degree, new Master Masons Jim Blanchard and Tim Brennan proved their proficiency by answering the necessary questions from the Fellow Craft degree in the presence of the lodge brothers.

Two brothers representing Roman Hatheway #223 and a visiting brother from Eden Lodge #477 of Eden, IN helped fill in as craftsmen and also enjoyed the evening.

Following completion of the first section, brothers recessed for a meal of chicken bbq, coleslaw, Irish stew soup, deviled eggs, vegetable platter, rolls, cupcakes and brownies.

Webb Police report recent dept. activity

The Town of Webb Police Department has reported the following recent law enforcement activity.

A 25-year-old Remsen man was charged with Speed in Zone and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree on Saturday, March 5 at 3:58 p.m.

According to the report, Town of Webb Police arrested the man for the above charges following a traffic stop on State Route 28 in the Town of Webb. Investigation determined that the man was operating a motor vehicle while his driving privileges were suspended in New York state.

He was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Webb Court at a later date.

Winners of Old Forge Library poetry & illustration contest to be announced at reception, March 15

Winners and Honorable Mentions in the “Boundaries” Poetry and Illustration Contest at the Old Forge Library  will be announced during an Opening Exhibit Reception on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded by Emcee Michael Cunningham at the reception hosted by The Friends of the Old Forge Library. Continue reading

Chief Johnston commends Town of Webb officers

Following are the words of Town of Webb Police Chief Ron Johnston, that were given at a ceremony on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, in recognition of three of his officers.
