Meet artist David Patterson at Gallery 3040 on Saturday, May 16

Photographer and pastel artist David Patterson of Thendara will be the featured artist at a Meet the Artist Reception at Gallery 3040 in Old Forge on Saturday, May 16. Patterson will be available from 2 to 5 p.m. to meet the public and discuss his work. The event is free of charge. Wine and light refreshments will be served.

Patterson earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Washington State University. Continue reading

Jean Lanphear Beckingham, 92, passes away

Jean Lanphear Beckingham, age 92, passed away on May 8, 2015 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Richard Jr. and Joanne Beckingham in Micco, Florida.

Jean was born on April 14, 1923 at Poplar Point in Raquette Lake, NY to Orrin and Hazel Lanphear.

She attended, and in 1939 graduated from, the Raquette Lake High School.   Continue reading

Hours change at Old Forge DMV

Summer hours at the Old Forge DMV Satellite Office will be in effect from Tuesday, May 26th through Friday, September 4th.

Office hours will be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.

The office will be closed on Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day.

Garage sale to benefit work of local sorority

Old Forge Chapter Xi Gamma Iota of Beta Sigma Phi women’s sorority will be holding a Garage Sale on Friday and Saturday, May 22 and 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2735 State Rte. 28 in Thendara, across from Bird’s Marine. The sale will include furniture, household items, collectibles, glassware, games, and more.

Proceeds from the sale will allow the group to give back to the community through donations to local non-profits and assist with supporting other projects such as the  Ginny Russell Scholarship Fund which is awarded annually to a graduating female senior at the Town of Webb School.

Library to present Gazebo Music Series from May to September

The Old Forge Library will present a series of live music performances at the library’s front lawn gazebo on the fourth Friday of each month from May through September.

The series, Meet Me at the Library Gazebo at 5, will be held from 5 to 6 p.m.

Kicking off the series on Friday, May 22 will be Adirondack duo, Jim and Bonnie Tracy.

The couple have been playing music together since 1979.  Continue reading
