Garage sale to benefit work of local sorority

Old Forge Chapter Xi Gamma Iota of Beta Sigma Phi women’s sorority will be holding a Garage Sale on Friday and Saturday, May 22 and 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2735 State Rte. 28 in Thendara, across from Bird’s Marine. The sale will include furniture, household items, collectibles, glassware, games, and more.

Proceeds from the sale will allow the group to give back to the community through donations to local non-profits and assist with supporting other projects such as the  Ginny Russell Scholarship Fund which is awarded annually to a graduating female senior at the Town of Webb School.

Old Forge: Dona Finkle pledges Beta Sigma Phi

Izzie Worthen, president of the local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, conducted a pledge ritual for Dona Finkle at a meeting held at the home of Penny Smedley on Monday, September 16.

Worthen was assisted by Judy Herron.

Twelve sorority members were in attendance.

Presently, Finkle is studying Beta Sigma Phi history and precepts with Smedley, sorority vice president.

Beta Sigma Phi installs officers

The members of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority held their opening gathering at the Banquet Hall of the Moose River House on Monday, September 12. Dinner was served by Stuart deCamp and Jimmie Ortiz.

Following dinner, the installation of officers for 2011–2012 took place. Officers are: Penny Smedley, president; Izzie Worthen, vice-president; Hazel Dellavia, extension officer; Patti Delano, recording secretary; Beverly Burnap, corresponding secretary; and Joan Ward, treasurer.
