Jean Lanphear Beckingham, 92, passes away

Jean Lanphear Beckingham, age 92, passed away on May 8, 2015 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Richard Jr. and Joanne Beckingham in Micco, Florida.

Jean was born on April 14, 1923 at Poplar Point in Raquette Lake, NY to Orrin and Hazel Lanphear.

She attended, and in 1939 graduated from, the Raquette Lake High School.  

Following her graduation, Jean attended Adirondack Commercial School in Malone, NY on a full one-year scholarship.

On February 6, 1944 at the Fort Worth, Texas Army Air Corps Base, Jean was united in marriage to Lt. Richard (Bud) Beckingham. Bud was a resident of Old Forge, NY.

From 1960 until her retirement, Jean was employed by Hamilton County and the State of New York for county judges, James D. Curry and George W. Martin. She began her career as Deputy and then was promoted to Clerk of Family and Surrogate Court.  Additionally, Jean was a stenographer for the County Court.

Jean was a life-long member of the Raquette Lake Chapel, a charter member of the Raquette Lake Fire Department Auxiliary and a member of the Raquette Lake Fish & Game Club. She actively participated in all of these endeavors well into her 80’s.

Jean enjoyed sewing, bowling, hunting and fishing. She was actively interested in and enjoyed all sports.

Jean is survived by her son Richard Jr. and his wife Joanne of Micco FL; son Thomas and his wife Elizabeth of Raquette Lake; daughter Sandra and her husband Donald Hicks of Raquette Lake, and a sister-in-law Doris Lamphear of Raquette Lake. Additionally she is survived by three grandsons; Wayne, Christopher, and Daniel; three great grandchildren, Lauren, Wyatt, and Darby Jean and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jean was pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years, a daughter Sharon, brothers Stanley, Jerry, Frank and Edgar and sisters Edna Colligan and Shirley Forsell.

At her request, Jean will be cremated.

There will be no service, calling hours, or celebration of life. Inurnment will be private.
