Service set for Eleanor Hansen

A graveside service for Eleanor L. Hansen of Eagle Bay, who passed away on December 3, 2013, will be held on Monday, June 9 at 11 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Old Forge.

Following the service the family wishes to extend an invitation to join them for a reception at the Ole Barn in Inlet.

Arrangements are with the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home of  Old Forge.

Outdoor precautions can help prevent Lyme and other tick-bourne diseases

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo alerts New Yorkers to take precautions to prevent diseases that are transmitted by ticks, such as lyme disease, as springtime weather arrives throughout the state.

Lyme disease is caused by the bite of an infected deer tick.

Ticks are active when the weather stays above freezing, usually from April through November.

The time of greatest concern is in late spring and early summer when nymphal ticks are active.  Continue reading

Library to host used book sale on May 24th

The Friends of the Old Forge Library will hold a Used Book Sale on Saturday, May 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the library lawn.

Among the large selection of used children’s books and adult paperbacks for sale at reasonable prices will be a selection of books from the personal collection of the late Adirondack author Anne LaBastille.

Confirmation class to host breakfast at St. Bartholomew’s Church, June 8

The St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church Confirmation class, under the direction of teachers Barb Winslow and Patty Foley, will host a breakfast at the church following the 10 a.m. mass on Sunday, June 8th.

The breakfast, a community service project of the class, will be held downstairs in the fellowship hall of the church.

The students will set up, decorate, serve, visit with diners and clean up following the event.

The breakfast is open to the public and free of charge. Donations will be accepted and directed to a charity of the students’ choice.

School of the Old Forge Ballet Co. offering Boonville classes

The School of the Old Forge Ballet Co., Inc. will be offering Classical Ballet classes this summer at the AMC Kenpo Karate Studio at 133 Main St. in Boonville.

Registration is currently underway, however a registration day has been set for Saturday, June 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Boonville studio.

English Standards Pre-Ballet, Cecchetti Graded Syllabus, Pre-Professional-Advanced and Adult Ballet are offered for male and female beginners and students with previous training in classical ballet.   Continue reading
