Congressional candidates bringing ideas to town hall meeting

Nick Rose, executive director of CAP-21, has arranged for four candidates for New York State’s 21st Congressional District to come to Old Forge on Tuesday, June 17 for a Town Hall Meeting to discuss their views on the future of the district with potential constituents.

The gathering will be held at View’s Gould Hall from 6 to 8 p.m. In attendance will be Republican candidates Matthew A.  Doheny and Elise M. Stefanik, Democratic candidate Aaron Woolf, and Green Party candidate Matt Funiciello. Continue reading →

Town of Inlet receives numerous local gov’t awards

This year’s Adirondack Park Local Government Day Conference, sponsored by the APA, was held in Lake Placid on Wednesday and Thursday, April 9 and 10th.

Prior to the Conference, all municipalities, civic organizations and not-for-profit groups within the Blue Line were invited to submit entries for the Adirondack Park Excellence Awards.

Old Forge Lakefront closing May 14 to 19 for Paddlefest

Town of Webb Supervisor Ted Riehle would like to remind residents that the Old Forge lakefront will be closed to motorized and pedestrian traffic for next weekend’s 16th Annual Adirondack Paddlefest.

The extension of Lakeview Ave. from Route 28 to South Shore Rd. will be closed from 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14 through 6 p.m. on Monday, May 19th. Continue reading →

Old Forge to host Adirondack economic development event on May 29

CAP-21 has been participating in an economic development workgroup sponsored by the Common Ground Alliance and The Adirondack Partnership.

The goal of this project has been to develop an Adirondack park-wide economic development strategy intended to assist in economic revitalization efforts throughout the Park.

Service set for M. Beckingham

Margaret May Beckingham, 86, of Old Forge died peacefully at her home on January 3, 2014.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. in Riverview Cemetery. Friends are asked to consider a donation in Margaret’s memory to the Old Forge American Legion Post 893 Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 893, Old Forge, NY 13420, or Home Aide Service of the Central Adirondacks (HASCA, P.O. Box 25, Old Forge, NY 13420.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Old Forge.

Sky’s the limit for DOT’s local economic stimulus program

As I was navigating State Route 28, I couldn’t help but admire the economic stimulus strategy introduced to the area by the New York State Department of Transportation.

It’s ingenious really, how they were able to implement a lower speed limit without any sort of legislation in order to slow down traffic, to allow them to better admire our area—and you can get an even closer look as you sit alongside the road waiting for the tow truck.  Continue reading →
