Service set for M. Beckingham

Margaret May Beckingham, 86, of Old Forge died peacefully at her home on January 3, 2014.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. in Riverview Cemetery. Friends are asked to consider a donation in Margaret’s memory to the Old Forge American Legion Post 893 Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 893, Old Forge, NY 13420, or Home Aide Service of the Central Adirondacks (HASCA, P.O. Box 25, Old Forge, NY 13420.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Old Forge.

Sky’s the limit for DOT’s local economic stimulus program

As I was navigating State Route 28, I couldn’t help but admire the economic stimulus strategy introduced to the area by the New York State Department of Transportation.

It’s ingenious really, how they were able to implement a lower speed limit without any sort of legislation in order to slow down traffic, to allow them to better admire our area—and you can get an even closer look as you sit alongside the road waiting for the tow truck.  Continue reading
