Paddlefest: Old Forge lakefront hosting annual event this weekend

Adirondack Paddlefest is the Nation’s Largest On-Water Canoe, Kayak and Stand-Up-Paddle-board (SUP) Demo and Sale and features over 75 leading manufacturers of canoes, kayaks, SUPs and accessories.

Paddlefest is held on Old Forge Pond, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 16 through 18 and includes clinics, on-site test paddling, speakers, instruction, live music, food and fun for the whole family, in addition to over 1,000 canoes, kayaks and SUP’s on sale at great pre-season prices.  Continue reading

Town of Webb UFSD voters to weigh-in on four ballot propositions on May 20th

Residents in the Town of Webb UFSD will go to the polls on Tuesday, May 20 to vote on the 2014 to 2015 budget, two seats on the board of education, and a general capital reserve fund proposition. Voting will take place from 2 to 9 p.m. in the school gymnasium.  Continue reading

Library kicking off Gazebo concert series on May 23rd

The Old Forge Library will present a series of live music performances at the library’s front lawn gazebo on the fourth Friday of each month from May through September.

“Meet Me at the Library Gazebo at 5” will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.

Kicking off the series on Friday, May 23 will be Adirondack duo, Jim and Bonnie Tracy, who will be performing traditional music, old time country, Piedmont blues and folk revival music from the 1960’s.

Other artists performing throughout the season include Nick Piccininni, Joe Bolton and Bob Liddle.

All are invited to bring a blanket or folding chair and enjoy the outdoor music. The program is free and open to the public. It is funded in part by New York State Council on the Arts: the Presenting Program.

Kiwanis Car Wash set Saturday, May 24

The 14th Annual Kiwanis and Key Club Free Car Wash will be held Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Calypso’s Cove parking lot in Old Forge.

This is the annual event that provides funds for the administration and operations of all the many Kiwanis children’s activities that take place during the year.   Continue reading

Lakeside Terrace hosting free Tai Chi classes

An eight-week Tai Chi exercise class for seniors wanting to improve their strength and balance will be held in the Community Room of Lakeside Terrace in Old Forge on Tuesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. beginning June 3rd.

The classes, instructed by Eileen Tobin, are free of charge and limited to 25 participants.
