Services held for Gloria F. Norton, 86

Gloria F. (Wenham) Norton, a longtime resident of Otter Lake and widow of John B., passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica, after a brief illness. img266

She was born in Utica on September 10, 1927, a daughter of Herman and Johanna Miller Wenham. Gloria grew up in Utica where she was educated in local schools, before her graduation with the Class of 1944, from St. Frances DeSales High School in Utica.

In 1925, her parents constructed a camp on Otter Lake. Gloria spent her summers there from 1928 until her marriage on June 2, 1956 to John B. (Buzz) Norton at St. Mary of the Snows Church, Otter Lake. Mr. Norton died on April 25, 1998. Continue reading

Raquette Lake Vendor Event set Feb. 22nd

A vendor event will be held at the Raquette Lake School on Route 28 on Saturday, February 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Shoppers can stop by for a variety of products by Lia Sophia, Pampered Chef, 31, Clutter Bug, and Raquette Lake’s WW Durant.

Old Forge Winter Carnival bustles with family outdoor activity

The Old Forge Winter Carnival on February 14, 15 and 16 featured a parade up Main Street, ice skating, and various other outdoor family activities and competitions at McCauley Mountain.

This year’s king and queen, Tim and Patty Foley, were crowned at a coronation ceremony on Saturday night that was preceded by torchlight and daredevil skiing.

A fireworks display, music by Joe Bolton and John Christy, and dancing at the McCauley Chalet followed. Continue reading

Webb school rehearsals continue for ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ musical

With the Town of Webb School Drama Depart-ment’s production of Annie Get Your Gun just a month away, the cast, crew and directors have been juggling their busy in- and out-of-school schedules to spend many of their evening hours in rehearsals.

The musical, under the direction of Webb Vocal Instructor Valerie Gaudin and Anne DeFilipps, will be held in the school gymnasium on Friday and Saturday, March 21 and 22 at 7 p.m.

Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (62+) and $5 for students.

Friends of the Old Forge Library say thanks for first 100 years

Friends of the Old Forge Library wish to thank all who participated in the Friends Library Luncheon celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Old Forge Library.

We particularly want to recognize the donation of the wonderful soups by DiOrio’s Supermarket, who also catered the delicious sandwiches. Trish Sehring did a fantastic job on the “Book Cake” which everyone enjoyed. We were fortunate to have many volunteers to help with the set-up, serving and clean-up.  Continue reading
