Butler: Time to repeal Cuomo’s abysmal gun control law

This week I am repeating my call for the repeal of Governor Cuomo’s gun control law, the so called NY SAFE Act.

Second Amendment enthusiasts, law enforcement and business owners have been joining me in calling for an end to this ill-conceived law.

It was a year ago that Governor Cuomo and other left-wing special interests made criminals out of law-abiding citizens with his gun control law—it is time we repeal the flawed measure.

I share my constituents’ frustration over Governor Cuomo’s blatant attack on their Second Amendment rights, the careless disregard for gun-based job creators like Remington Arms and mom-and-pop gun shops, and the disrespect shown to our law enforcement professionals.

The governor was reactive, and forced a bad law upon the legislature for obvious political reasons.  Continue reading

Celebration of Life planned for Nancy Wells, 67

Nancy Rhame Glenn Wells, 67, of Old Forge lost her fight against cancer on January 7, 2014 in Charlotte, NC.

She was born on March 19, 1946 in Manhattan to Robert and Marjory Glenn. Nancy graduated from Olney Friends School in Ohio and then attended  North Texas University and Syracuse University.  phone pictures 1814 168

Nancy and her dear sister, Marjoy Glenn Boscherini of Florence, Italy had the opportunity to travel and live all over the world with their parents. Over the course of her life Nancy lived in New York, Virginia, Tennessee, Burma, Florida, Texas and then back to New York.    Continue reading

2013 neither bust nor banner year for building activity

2013 construction stats

The charts at right show last year’s building growth in simple terms based on numbers alone.

They do not show the size of buildings, value, constructions costs or locations.

Examples of these rather important distinctions would be size and/or value of single family dwellings.

Although last year’s number of new homes was fewer than others of the past ten, there was no lack of activity when it came to the rather large and more expensive homes, where records were actually set on the higher end.

For example, one 2013 project in the Town of Webb is for a home that will be nearly 10,000 square feet when finished. Continue reading

Nordic Youth Polar Bears dominate field at McCauley’s Bill Koch races

The Junior Polar Bear Nordic Ski Team hosted Bill Koch Ski Races at McCauley Mountain on Saturday and Sunday, January 4 and 5th. Saturday’s event included Freestyle 2.5KM and 1KM races, while Sunday’s races were Classic 2.5KM and 1KM. Classes, placements and times of Saturday’s race were: photo 1

Barnstormers to meet Jan. 21st

The next meeting of the Inlet Barnstormers Snowmobile Club will be on Tuesday, January 21 at 7 p.m. at the Inlet Town Hall.

New members are always welcome to come and see what’s new in the club. Refreshments will be served.

Niccolls Church offers programs for kids

Niccolls Memorial Presby-terian Church in Old Forge offers a variety of children’s programs during the school year.

Sunday School for children ages five through 12 meets during the 10 a.m. Sunday service. Boys and girls join the Sunday School teachers for a creative, interactive lesson using a new curriculum called, Holy Moly.

A Youth Group for students in grades seven through 12 meets on the first Sunday of each month for activities such as Faith and Film, to watch and discuss movies, and for hands-on activities, such as baking bread. Continue reading
