The Raquette Lake Fish & Game Club, along with the Norris family and friends, will host their 14th annual ice fishing derby—named in tribute to Mikey McCullough McNorris—on Saturday, January 25th.
The event will take place on Raquette Lake with registration beginning at 6 a.m. at the Raquette Lake fire hall on Route 28.
Registration for the adult division (age 16 and over) requires a fishing license and a fee of $20.
Registration for junior division (15 and under) does not require a fishing license, but must have a responsible adult to complete the registration, waiver of responsibility, and pay the fee of $10.
The first line can get wet at 7 a.m. and last line must be out at 3 p.m.
Any fish entered in the contest must be presented to the weigh station by 3:30 p.m.
A fish can be brought to the weigh station at any time during the contest and there is a release hole close by.
Cash prizes are awarded by largest weight, then length. A live fish will win over a fish presented that is not.
If there is a tie—the prize money is combined and/or split between the two winners.
First and second awards will be paid in the categories of lake trout, brook trout, salmon, perch and crappie in both the adult and junior division.
First place plaques will be engraved by Speedy Awards & Engraving and mailed ASAP.
There will be coffee, hot chocolate and snacks served throughout the day. The fire hall offers a place to warm up, restrooms and free bad fishing advice.
There will be 50/50 raffle tickets sold with the drawing held that day.
Adults can turn in their contestant number at the end of the derby to be eligible for great door prizes. The public is invited to attend the final weigh-in and awards presentation.
This event is co-sponsored by Raquette Lake Parks & Recreation, Town of Long Lake and The Federation of Sportsmen Groups Inc., Hamilton County.
