Card of Thanks

Thank you to everyone who consoled us through the loss of our father, Art Germer. The phone calls, food, cards, flowers, well wishes, donations, and visits from all of you have made us realize just how much Art touched the lives of people in this community.

It has also reminded us just how special being a part of this town is.

The stories that we were told for the first time about our father during this time have helped us greatly in our time of grief, especially the story of Dad’s gift to a little boy named Arthur.

It quickly became apparent to us that not only will our Dad be greatly missed by his family, but also by those many lives that he has touched with his warm, kind, caring and sensitive heart.

We would also like to thank those for the support during Dad’s illness and stay in the hospital.

The cards and letters that he received in the hospital, while too many to count, were each read to him, and we know that he appreciated and enjoyed each and every one of them, as did we.

Thank you.

The Germer and Carro Families

An open letter to the community & B.O.E.

Kinderwood thankful for all who contribute to local education

Kinderwood would like to thank the Town of Webb UFSD Board for hosting a very productive forum last Tuesday, which allowed members of the public to discuss our community’s Pre-K educational needs.

The session was informative and elicited some great questions and comments.

Kinderwood is glad for the opportunity it’s had in helping with the educational development of our preschool children, and we look forward to continuing for many years to come. Continue reading

Letter to the Editor: Better Solution- Give nature chance to create cold, snowy Ad’k winters

To the Editor:

Just a thought for Richard Risley… I can see the future now. I’m a mile back in the woods listening to a loon calling and dreaming of a Brookie chasing my fly when I hear the gentle sound of a dozen engines revving up. I step off the trail just in time to save my life as a beer can whistles past my ear. ATVs on the trails. What a wonderful idea. It will be like having Nascar all year.

Mr. Risley, you seemed confused over the changes in snowfall amounts. Please do a little reading about the last forty years of Adirondack winter and you will have a clear understanding of what is happening.

It’s not “nature having its way with us,” it’s climate change. Continue reading

Spring services planned for Alvin ‘Red’ Ritz

Alvin 'Red' Ritz

Alvin “Red” Ritz passed away on the thirteenth day of this January, 2012. He was surrounded by family as he died in the Presbyterian Home in Utica.

Red was born in Old Forge January 21, 1920 and narrowly escaped his ninety-second birthday.

As a young man, Alvin Ritz was a natural baseball talent and a graduate of the Town of Webb School.

He became the very picture of a native Adirondacker; a hard worker and most importantly an excellent husband, father, hunter and fisherman.

His early summers were spent on the “pickle boat” helping to distribute supplies along the lower Fulton Chain of Lakes. Continue reading
