John Mitchell, the Assistant Operator at the Town of Webb Waste Water Treatment Plant since 2006, has been appointed Chief Operator to replace Theodore (Ted) Riehle, who was elected as Town of Webb Supervisor in the November election.

Mitchell, who lives in Otter Lake with his wife Jodi (VanDresar) and their three children, is originally from Indian Lake.

When he was assistant to Chief Operator Riehle, Mitchell said he worked the weekend shift and one of his duties included doing tests on the chlorinator for the Department of Public Works. Now that he is Chief Operator, he is responsible for maintaining the plant and for various tasks that include filing Discharge Monitoring Reports to the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

“The biggest thing is to make sure our pH level doesn’t drop too low. If it drops too low going into the river, it would be a violation,” he said.

The town is currently advertising for an Assistant Operator to fill his former position, Mitchell said.
