Webb school seniors selected Theatre League Ambassadors

The Broadway Theatre League in Utica has selected Town of Webb School high school senior Morgan Payne and junior Melissa Murphy as Youth Ambassadors for this season’s Broadway Show series at the Stanley Theatre.

Their selection was based on a short essay, a recommendation from the school’s vocal music instructor, Valerie Gaudin and previous experience in theatre.

Two students from 33 area school districts were invited to participate in the program. The goal of the program is to engage area teens and encourage their interest in theatre. Continue reading

Town of Webb UFSD welcomes new kindergarten and music teachers

The Town of Webb School UFSD will welcome new staff for the 2013-2014 school year when it opens its doors on Wednesday, September 4, including teachers Hannah Payne and Emily Herrmann.

Hannah Payne comes on as the new kindergarten teacher following the retirement of Barbara Borwick after 28 years of teaching. Emily Herrmann joins the faculty as the new instrumental music teacher.

Payne grew up in Poland and got a degree in childhood and early childhood education from SUNY Oneonta. She did her student teaching in the North Syracuse School District.

Varsity Baseball: Clemans hits two singles, one RBI in Old Forge loss

Old Forge got two hits apiece from John Gaffney, Parker Clemans, and Griffin Kleps, with Clemans and Tyler McGough each knocking in a run on Monday, May 7 in a game the team lost at home to New York Mills.

Also adding hits were PJ Perkins, Garrett Pavlus, McGough and Tecwyn Williams.

Garrett Pavlus started on the mound for Old Forge, and over five innings he struck out nine while walking just one.

Greg Hunkins took over in the sixth, allowing just one run.

“We played fairly well and stayed pretty close throughout. New York Mills is a pretty good team—they always are year in and year out.”

Still, Old Forge had some chances in the bottom of the last inning when the team loaded the bases with no outs.

“We weren’t able to deliver the runs, but we played well and certainly made opportunities for ourselves,” Riedman said. Continue reading

Town of Webb School Board meets

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, March 20, where it took the following action:

• Approved the Minutes of March 6th Meeting.

• Approved the Warrants and Claims.

• Approved the Committee on Special Education Recommendations.

• Approved the Treasurer’s Report for February 2012.

• Approved the of election inspectors/poll watchers at a stipend of $85 as follows: Dora Burnett, Pauline MacDonald, Mona Lincoln, Joan Spring, Betty Draper, and Anne Hasby. Alternate Election Inspectors are Carol Clark and Janine Phaneuf. Continue reading

Boys varsity Basketball team report

The Town of Webb School Boys Varsity Basketball team defeated Remsen in an away game on Tuesday, January 24 with a score of 67 to 45. Sam Waterbury scored 19 points, including three 3-pointers; Calvin Risley scored 17 points; and Greg Hunkins tipped in 12 points for Webb. Continue reading

Webb school boys & girls sports teams battle to mixed finishes in opening 2012

In an away game on Wednesday, January 4, the Eskimo’s were upended by Rome Catholic by a score of 62 to 23, but bright spots were Greg Hunkins, who played well scoring 11 points, and Kenny Pastore with a three-pointer, free throw and field goal. Other scorers were Parker Clemans, Dane Daiker, and Kody Earl.

On Saturday, January 7 crowds gathered in the TOW School gym for the boys game against Oppienhuim-Ephratah.

Despite the ultimate loss (53-34) attendees were treated to Greg Hunkins’s 21 points. Other contributors were Ethan Kress with 6, Parker Clemans with 5, and Kenny Pastore with 3 points respectively. Continue reading
