DEC Forest Rangers respond to lost hiker call at Nicks Lake

Two search and rescue missions were carried out in Herkimer and Hamilton counties recently by New York State Department of Environ-mental Conservation (DEC) Forest Rangers, including one involving a lost hiker at Nicks Lake Campground in the Town of Webb.

On June 7 at 9:51 p.m., DEC Ray Brook Dispatch learned that the lost hiker had called Herkimer County 911 for help.

One DEC Forest Ranger responded and located the 48-year-old woman from Monument County at 11:35 p.m. along Nicks Creek.  Continue reading

Karen Beck completes reading certification program in Oriskany

Karen Beck of Woodgate recently completed her training for certification as a teacher of children who have difficulty reading due to Dyslexia.

The program, conducted by the Children’s Dyslexia Centers in Oriskany, results in certification in multi-sensory structured language teaching based on the work of Samuel T. Orton.   Continue reading

Eyres to celebrate 60th anniversary

Art and Annette Eyre will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday, June 18. Art and Annette were born and raised in Old Forge and have lived and worked here all their lives.

They were married June 18, 1955 at St. Bartholomew’s Church and have been together ever since. When you see them out and about, please congratulate them!

We love them and are so happy for them and their amazing life together!
