Karen Beck of Woodgate recently completed her training for certification as a teacher of children who have difficulty reading due to Dyslexia.

The program, conducted by the Children’s Dyslexia Centers in Oriskany, results in certification in multi-sensory structured language teaching based on the work of Samuel T. Orton.

She completed 45 hours of seminar and 100 hours of supervised practicum over approximately nine months.

In addition to the required 145 hours, she also committed to 50 additional contact hours over the course of her training.

Beck began her training in July 2014 and completed it on May 27.

She  successfully completed all the requirements for certification in the Orton Gillingham Approach to Reading and will receive her certificate in July 2015.

Beck earned her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Potsdam and her Masters in Education at St. Lawrence University.

In addition to her certification in reading, Karen holds permanent NYS certifications in math and art.

She is currently accepting students seeking individual remediation and instruction.
